Environmental Designers

Designers Luly Gonzalez & Tim Callahan

We at Alembic Studio are cognizant of our role in contemporary social and technological transformations. As environmental designers we take seriously our responsibility for the consequences of the homes, communities and environs that we help create; their effect on people and the environment, the energy they depend on, and the resources required to maintain them.

Tim Callahan

Tim has over 30 years experience in design-build projects ranging from single family homes to bluewater sailing yachts, intentional communities and more. He has worked extensively as a licensed General Contractor, Marine Engineer, timber framer, and fine woodworker. Over the past decade, his body of work has primarily consisted of the design and construction of ultra energy-efficient homes built with local, natural materials. He is co-author of the book “Building Green” and has resided with his family in Asheville, NC since 1992.

Lourdes Gonzalez

Lourdes, better known as Luly, is a recent arrival to the Asheville area a year ago. Throughout her studies at Florida Atlantic University’s School of Architecture, and at the Instituto Europeo di Design in Barcelona, Spain, Luly has been captivated by the history and the development of urban centers and the role of architecture. Asheville’s unique combination of culture, people, smells, noises, textures and vistas come together to form an essentially unique place; one to be recognized and celebrated. Luly is a registered LEED AP  and serves as the LEED Team Leader on the Nauhaus Prototype.
